Author Life Musings: Forging Stories, Need Help

Writing sometimes feels like forging a sword. Well, I will be honest, I have never forged steel. So…I guess it feels like what I would imagine that would feel like, but with less sweat and no metal poisoning to contend with. Okay, so it’s really nothing like forging a sword. But there are some similarities. Writing stories feels like forging stories. Forging characters. Forging friendships. Forging epic tales of woe, wisdom, and wonder. It takes work. Even for people who fly by the seat of their pants, they will eventually reach the editing stage. Then the sweat starts to flow. But if you stick with it, you end up with something quite useful and very rewarding.
Sometimes forging stories becomes a bit much though. Even people who love their jobs need to take a break now and then or need help getting it done. As someone who spends most of my time sitting in solitude putting my characters through the wringer, I love getting to meet with other writers and…well, continue to do that. But as a group. (If you have ever wondered what authors do together, well, now you know.) This is why I am so grateful that God has given me some great friends who are also authors! Whether it is just talking about stories instead of writing them, or having people to keep me focused so I can get the last of that WIP completed, my author friends have become a special blessing in my life. Forging stories does, in fact, forge friendships in real life. Friendships I am endlessly grateful for.
