Author Life Musings: Apparently This Is a Thing…and I’m Just Now Finding Out

Tea in a glass mug beside a green floral notebook, Peet’s coffee pod, and gnome figurine among flowers, pinecones, and a TAZO tag.

I love coffee. It’s been a love of mine since I was a kid, specifically iced coffee. But I have a problem. Coffee caffeine makes me so jittery that it feels like my soul has been struck by lightning. Okay, so I’m being a little melodramatic. But it’s not fun, and I often get a migraine the next day. My solution? Tea. It has been said that tea caffeine is better for you and doesn’t have quite as bad an impact on your nerves. For me at least, that seems to be true. So, sadly, I have had to retire caffeinated coffee.

But I love coffee!!

This dilemma led to a specific thought one day, as I was staring at my kitchen gnomes, wanting coffee and needing tea. Is it a crime to mix tea and coffee? I mean….it would taste great…I think. Decaffeinated coffee with caffeinated chi tea? Sounds great to me! But do tea people frown upon this? Would coffee-lovers panic?

I proceeded to do what any self-respecting adult with a need for additional energy does. I searched the internet. I quickly found out that I have been missing out on one of the world’s most self-employed-person-friendly beverage collections of all time! It’s a thing!!! It’s called a “dirty chai” if you use espresso, and I have no idea how I didn’t know this was a thing!

I love the idea of a dirty chai, but while I was looking them up, I found some additional versions of the drink that sounded super good! If you want some recipes, here is a link to the list I found that I will be trying out for my writer energy boost needs this summer!
