Every once in a while, I love a good fairytale or a story with folksy vibes. But sometimes it can be hard to find authors who know how to balance the romance with the action. If you are looking for authors who write clean fantasy with fairytale and folksy vibes that strike a balance between romance and adventure, action, and intrigue, here are four authors just for you.
Janeen Ippolito
Janeen’s series currently includes three stand-alone, fairytale inspired books: Met by Midnight, Thorns at Sunrise, and Frogs at Noontide. I read Met by Midnight and enjoyed its fairytale vibes and unique voice. I also loved that this little romance had some classic fantasy action. It felt like a cozy fairy tale fantasy but with high stakes. Thorns at Sunrise is on my TBR, and I plan to get the third one as well! If you want some cozy fairytale vibes with action, check out Janeen’s stories on Amazon. They’re quick reads and great adventures!
Alissa J. Zavalianos
On the Edge of the Forgotten Sea by Alissa J. Zavalianos was the first mermaid book I read that I actually enjoyed. The book was a delight from beginning to end, and its folksy vibes were all there. While this story is less about the action, the adventure and suspense of not knowing all the answers really drove the story forward and paired well with the romance. I look forward to reading more from this author, starting with her fantasy retelling, Unearth the Tides. If you want romance, suspense, and questions that beg for answers—plus a little action—check out Alissa’s books on Amazon!
R. Dugan
One of my all-time favorite fantasy books is A Story Spun in Scarlet by R. Dugan. This fantasy novel stands on its own, not as a retelling. It offers all the charm of a fairytale, the scale of epic fantasy, the wonder of adventure, and the heart of romance. Though it lacks the fairytale coziness, there is something about this story that struck that fairytale chord within me. This author has two more stand-alone books, both on my TBR, A Tale Told by Traitors and A Poem Penned in Poison, along with the sequel to A Story Spun in Scarlet, called Epics Etched in Echoes. If you want stories that hit all the feels and keep you turning pages past midnight, check out her books on Amazon!
Happy Reading
I hope you find some great books to read this month with some fun fairytale or folksy vibes that don’t lose the action and suspense. Let me know in the comments if you have read books by these authors and let me know which ones!
