Today is a blustery day. I literally said that to someone and immediately thought of Pooh, because of course I would. But seriously, it's windy and not super warm (so like 64 degrees Ferenhight, because it's Florida) and I am super tired today. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I had no idea how tired I was on cloudy days until I moved somewhere where it wasn’t cloudy every day. Thankfully, a friend of mine, with whom I work out weekly, was up for a chill stretch rather than a full workout, and it restored a bit of my energy. Now I know why Pooh always did his stretches. Because sometimes we just need to get started with something small to get the ball rolling.
What does this have to do with writing? Well, thanks to the weather and my cold molasses style energy flow, I didn’t want to write today. Or work at all, really. It’s one of those days when you just want to curl up and watch TV or read a book. Alas, it is not so, and I must write my content. Which I love doing. But I thought it was important to share this; it’s okay to have days where we, as writers, don’t want to write. Everybody needs a break now and then, and a blustery day is a great day for it if you can work it into your schedule. But for those who struggle on those days when you just don’t have words to write and that makes you feel guilty as a writer, it’s okay. Take a moment, and maybe a lesson from Pooh. Do some stretches. It helps. And remember that you are still a great person and a great writer even if you don’t feel like writing today.
